The Expedition
The "Lewiston Clarkston Expedition" refers to the Lewis and Clark Expedition's historic visit in October 1805 to the confluence of the Snake and Clearwater Rivers, an area now known as the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley. As the Corps of Discovery journeyed toward the Pacific Ocean, they camped near the site of present-day Lewiston, Idaho, and Clarkston, Washington, on an island close to the river junction. This visit is marked by historical markers and sites in the valley, which honor the expedition's journey and the significance of the location, including a center dedicated to their crossing of the rivers near the Pacific.
